Dr. Seth Osgood was born and raised in Vermont and moved to Austin, Texas after graduating college. It was there he started his journey in healthcare working in Emergency Medicine as a Paramedic for Austin Travis County EMS.
Pursuing further education and an expanded understanding of healthcare, Dr. Osgood attended nursing school and spent several years working as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. After caring for people in the Critical Care setting who had been devastated by the horrific effects of chronic disease, Dr. Osgood was determined to further his involvement in preventative health. He completed his Master’s Degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner and went on to earn his Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP).
Dr. Osgood discovered early in his career that Functional Medicine was his true passion. It was Functional Medicine that transformed his health, and the health of his family who needlessly struggled for years with digestive problems. He completed his post graduate studies through the Institute for Functional Medicine and is currently an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner (IFM-CP). Dr. Osgood trained and worked under Dr. Amy Myers at her clinic in Austin. It was here that Dr. Osgood cared for patients from around the world with complex chronic health conditions, assisting them in their journey to optimal health using a Functional Medicine approach.
Dr. Osgood moved back to New England to return to his home state of Vermont to spread the reach of Functional Medicine. There he founded GrassRoots Functional Medicine and continues to see people from across the country. His true passion is helping individuals build a life that revolves around physical, emotional, and spiritual well being. He is blessed with a beautiful wife and five amazing children. When he is not seeking new educational opportunities, you will probably find Dr. Osgood on a lake or in a brook fishing with his children.

Dr. Osgood has been a life changer for my 9 year old son who has PANDAS/PANS/ Lyme. Before starting treatment my son was in such a bad place he could hardly function. Dr. Osgood did extensive testing to see exactly what elements needed treatment, supplementation and what foods needed to be eliminated. Healing is a slow process that requires a lot of tweaking of the protocol and time and patience. I have been challenged by CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), autoimmune thyroid disease, and a Mast Cell disorder for over 5 years. These issues resulted in systemic, chronic inflammation affecting multiple systems of my body. I suffered from a long list of symptoms. I lost all of my energy and enthusiasm. Most days I was consumed with debilitating “brain fog” which made the most basic life tasks a challenge. I sought help from countless doctors in Texas and the surrounding states, without resolution or even meaningful improvement. The challenges seemed insurmountable, and my emotional state was deteriorating rapidly. That changed when I met Dr. Seth Osgood! Dr. Osgood took my entire medical history into account – the body, my mental state and support structures, and emotional well-being. He has a unique approach to treatment which manifests through his compassion, thoroughness, and enthusiasm for his patients’ well-being. The functional medicine route is by far the best way to go. When I met Dr. Osgood, I was 40 pounds under my ideal weight. I had struggled for 2+ years trying to gain weight, put on muscle, and feel strong again. I was also experiencing heart palpitations, and was extremely irritable. I had been a collegiate athlete, but at 28 years old was so weak I was unable to hold our newborn son for any longer than a few minutes at a time. At my first appointment with Seth, I appreciated the time and energy spent to understand my health history, and my current struggles. I felt heard and understood. There was time and space to ask any and all questions I had, without feeling rushed or degraded. Going into my first appointment, I was convinced I had a parasite, and balked at the idea of doing the lab tests Seth recommended. However, I’m now so thankful we did all the tests Seth recommended. Those tests revealed I had Graves’ Disease – an Autoimmune Hyperthyroid condition, as well as several underlying gut issues. I had no clue. Knowing exactly what was going on in my body was key for us to put a plan together to correct all the health issues I had going on. With diligence and support, following the plan we put together with Dr. Osgood, I’m overjoyed to report Graves’ Disease is now in full remission! Something my Endocrinologist originally told me would never happen. Now, I’m off all medication and have implemented several healthy lifestyle habits that will continue to benefit me and my family for years to come. When my oldest child started to have some health issues I was at a loss for how to deal with the situation. As a pharmacist, I knew that what she was experiencing wasn’t completely typical. I know the basics of lots of health conditions and I know about the medications that are usually prescribed and I knew that in her case, they wouldn’t help. When I couldn’t bear to watch her suffer anymore I went the route that was the only thing I knew about-traditional medicine. While the physicians we met were compassionate, I could tell they didn’t know what to do with her and I felt like they dismissed everything I said. We were referred to a specialist because of some odd lab values and the summary of the visit was him saying, “We don’t worry about those lab values. A functional medicine Doctor would be all over that but we don’t concern ourselves with that”. I left the office, took my daughter to school, and cried in frustration. Then I decided to listen to what the specialist inadvertently recommended and make a change to functional medicine. I decided to take a chance and head in a direction that I knew NOTHING about. I called my sister in law and she knew I was ready to listen. She told me how Dr. Osgood and Grassroots Functional Medicine had changed her life and healed her when traditional medicine had failed her for years. I made an appointment that day and began the journey of finding healing for my daughter. I had a million questions and concerns and Christina in the office was so helpful and patient with me. Dr. Osgood was amazing and supportive and knowledgeable. As he described what he felt was going on with her health it just clicked-I knew what he was saying was exactly what she was dealing with. I had been reading and researching for months and I just couldn’t make everything fall into place but it finally all made sense. Healing wasn’t an easy process-it took commitment and a lifestyle change for her. However, the reward was worth it. After a year or more of increasing misery and worsening symptoms, she finally began to feel better. Last week she left to go to college. I cried a few sad tears because I was saying goodbye to her but I cried even more happy tears because she finally feels great and has been symptom free. My goal was to find answers for her by the time she left for school and thanks to Grassroots and Dr. Osgood I have a happy healthy girl. I couldn’t be more grateful.
I went to Dr. Seth with severe eczema on my hands, to the point that some of my fingernails had separated from the skin and were dying and coming off. No one had been able to improve it. On first visit I asked him if he could please make my hands feel better. He said, why don’t we just make them well. Following Dr. Seth’s plan, my hands gradually began to improve. Dr. Seth continues to give me hope on my health journey. He is thorough and creative, considering all areas of my life, not just my symptoms. During my last visit, he asked me if my latest pharmaceutical seemed to be making a difference. When I replied that I couldn’t tell, he said, “alright let’s take you off it then. I mean, the goal is not to be on anything.” It surprised me, since in my experience with medical doctors, the response would have been, “well let’s try a little longer, and see what happens.” Clearly, Seth is not in it for the pharmaceutical kickbacks he can get, he is concerned for MY welfare. His background and experience give me confidence and I’m so grateful to have a care provider like him who is not giving up on my health.
